D-term Inflation and M-theory

چکیده

Models of supersymmetricD-term inflation require a new mass scale near 10 GeV in order to match the density perturbation spectrum observed by COBE. Attempts to obtain such a scale from the anomalous U(1) of string theories fail in most string models. However there is hope that models based on non-standard embeddings in M-theory can solve the discrepancy. We will show that such models still suffer from the other drawback of D-inflationary models, namely that Planckian field values are required to drive inflation. Thus it is hard to understand why the inflaton potential remains so flat without imposing stringent symmetries on the superpotential. We also examine a fascinating quasi-fixed point behavior for the gauge coupling of the anomalous U(1) in these extra-dimensional models, and show that either the presence of large numbers of fields in the 5-dimensional bulk or strongly suppressed U(1) gauge couplings is required in order to restore naturality to the inflationary potential.

D-term Inflation: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Prologo. It is by now commonly accepted that inflation looks more natural in supersymmetric theories rather in non-supersymmetric ones. This is because the necessity of introducing very small parameters to ensure the extreme flatness of the inflaton potential seems very unnatural and fine-tuned in most non-supersymmetric theories, while this naturalness is achieved in supersymmetric models. The...

Dilaton and Moduli Fields in D-term inflation

We investigate the possibility of D-term inflation within the framework of type I string-inspired models. Although D-term inflation model has the excellent property that it is free from the so-called ηproblem, two serious problems appear when we embed D-term inflation in string theory, the magnitude of FI term and the rolling motion of the dilation. In the present paper, we analyze the potentia...

Moduli Corrections to D-term Inflation

We present a D-term hybrid inflation model, embedded in supergravity with moduli stabilisation. Its novel features allow us to overcome the serious challenges of combining D-term inflation and moduli fields within the same string-motivated theory. One salient point of the model is the positive definite uplifting D-term arising from the moduli stabilisation sector. By coupling thisD-term to the ...

Super Hilltop Inflation

In this paper, we consider logarithmic radiative corrections and higher order terms to the supersymmetric hilltop Fand D-term hybrid inflation models. Conventional Fand D-term hybrid inflation only predicts ns > ∼ 0.98. We show that via a positive quadratic and a negative quartic correction the spectral index can be reduced to ns = 0.96 suggested from latest WMAP result and also cosmic string p...

D-term inflation in non-minimal supergravity

D-term inflation is one of the most interesting and versatile models of inflation. It is possible to implement naturally D-term inflation within high energy physics, as for example SUSY GUTs, SUGRA, or string theories. D-term inflation avoids the η-problem, while in its standard form it always ends with the formation of cosmic strings. Given the recent three-year WMAP data on the cosmic microwa...
